The Role

As a Rust-Simplicity Maintainer, you will be the primary steward of Blockstream's Rust-based Simplicity implementation and associated libraries. You'll oversee rust-simplicity, SimplicityHL, hal-simplicity, rust-elements, and elements-miniscript—ensuring they work together performantly, coherently, and in sync with the wider Simplicity project. This is a leadership position combining architecture, implementation, code review, and maintenance of libraries written in Rust that cover creation, analysis, and wallet integration of the Simplicity blockchain language.

Key Responsibilities

• Core Ownership: Maintain and expand the Rust implementation of Simplicity to cover new use-cases while improving CI and QA processes.
• Multi-Repo Maintenance: Steward multiple crates including rust-simplicity, SimplicityHL, hal-simplicity, rust-elements, and elements-miniscript with coordinated updates and releases.
• Code Review & Quality Assurance: Provide maintainer-level code reviews ensuring all merges receive at least one independent signoff from a reviewer other than the author.
• Continuous Integration: Build and maintain robust CI pipelines with automated testing and rapid feedback loops on code changes.
• Ecosystem Integration: Collaborate across teams to integrate Simplicity into Bitcoin-related projects such as Elements and Liquid.
• Community Engagement: Review pull requests, manage GitHub issues, and guide open-source contributors across all maintained projects.
• Documentation: Create and maintain clear, developer-friendly documentation for both internal teams and external audiences.

What We're Looking For

• Rust Expertise: Strong proficiency in Rust with 2+ years of professional experience preferred.
• Blockchain Knowledge: Familiarity with Bitcoin, blockchain protocols, or cryptographic systems.
• Communication Skills: Strong written communication abilities and proven capacity to work effectively in globally distributed teams.
• Maintainer Mindset: Experience managing open-source projects, code quality standards, and community contributions is a plus.
