Job Description

About the Role

As Director of Consumer at charity: water, you will own the organization's most critical revenue mandate: growing Spring, a recurring giving community that serves as the financial engine sustaining the mission to bring clean water to communities in need. This is a strategic leadership position where you'll direct all aspects of consumer donor acquisition, retention, and lifetime value optimization across multiple channels and touchpoints.

You will report directly to the VP of Global Marketing & Partnerships and manage a team of two direct reports, while overseeing agency and contractor partners. Your primary responsibility is driving $25M+ in annual consumer revenue and managing the complete donor journey from first gift through long-term commitment. Success is measured by Spring enrollment growth, average donor contribution value, retention rates, and the depth of giving progression over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Spring Revenue Strategy & Execution: Own the recurring revenue target and all components of donor acquisition, retention, upgrade paths, and lifetime value (LTV) optimization. Build and manage the full-funnel consumer donor journey from initial gift through multi-year commitment, identifying opportunities to accelerate donor depth and transition high-value consumers into Mid & Major donor portfolios.
  • 1x-to-Spring Conversion Architecture: Design and continuously optimize pathways that convert one-time donors into recurring givers. Evaluate all one-time giving programs through a recurring conversion lens, partnering with revenue teams to identify 'major donor ready' signals and build handoff infrastructure.
  • Paid Media Strategy & Leadership: Own paid acquisition strategy across all channels including paid social, paid search, TV/CTV, display, and direct mail. Set creative briefs, direct agency and contractor execution, and hold partners accountable to performance metrics including CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost), CPA (Cost Per Acquisition), ROAS (Return on Ad Spend), and revenue attribution.
  • Budget Management & Analytics: Manage multi-channel paid media budgets with rigorous forecasting, tracking, and performance reporting. Develop expertise in attribution modeling and demonstrate fluency in performance marketing fundamentals including channel mix optimization, audience targeting, and creative testing.
  • AI-Optimized Media Operations: Lead the transition toward an AI-optimized media operating model that reduces long-term agency dependence and improves efficiency. Stay current on AI applications in paid acquisition, evaluate emerging tools and platforms, and accelerate integration of AI capabilities into team operations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the VP of Global Marketing & Partnerships, Revenue Resources team, and other departments to align donor strategy with organizational goals and integrate consumer data across all giving channels.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in performance marketing with deep fluency in paid media strategy, channel mix management, audience targeting, creative testing, and budget allocation
  • Track record of leading agency and contractor partnerships, setting clear briefs, and holding partners accountable to quantifiable performance metrics
  • Strong analytical foundation with demonstrated ability to think and operate in terms of lifetime value, customer acquisition cost, retention rates, and revenue attribution
  • Experience building and managing full-funnel marketing strategies that span acquisition, conversion, and retention
  • Leadership experience managing teams and holding accountability across complex, multi-channel operations
  • Understanding of recurring revenue/subscription business models and conversion optimization from transactional to recurring giving
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning applications in digital marketing and willingness to modernize team operations
  • Experience in mission-driven or nonprofit environments preferred
