Job Description
Director of Consumer – Remote
Company: charity: water
Location: Remote (Nashville, TN preferred with monthly travel required)
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Role
As Director of Consumer at charity: water, you will own the organization's most critical revenue mandate: growing Spring, the recurring giving community that serves as the financial engine sustaining the mission to bring clean water to communities in need. This is a strategic leadership position that combines data-driven fundraising, performance marketing expertise, and team management to drive sustainable revenue growth and deepen donor relationships.
You will report directly to the VP of Global Marketing & Partnerships and manage a $25M+ consumer revenue target while leading a team of two direct reports. Your north star is Spring: the number of recurring donors enrolled, average gift size, retention rates, and the progression of donors into deeper giving levels. This role requires fluency in performance marketing, agency leadership, and building scalable systems that connect first-time donors to long-term commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Spring Revenue & Donor Growth: Own charity: water's recurring revenue target across acquisition, retention, upgrade, and lifetime value metrics. Build and manage the full-funnel consumer donor journey from initial gift through multi-year commitment, with active focus on accelerating donor depth and transitioning consumer donors into Mid & Major portfolios.
- Conversion Optimization: Design and optimize the 1x-to-Spring conversion pathway, evaluating one-time giving programs through a recurring revenue lens. Partner with the VP and Revenue Resources team to define 'major donor ready' signals and build handoff infrastructure that captures high-value prospects.
- Paid Media Strategy & Execution: Own paid acquisition strategy across all channels including paid social, paid search, TV/CTV, display, and direct mail. Set briefs, direct agency and contractor partners, and hold them accountable to performance metrics.
- Multi-Channel Budget Management: Forecast, track, and report on campaign performance across CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost), CPA (Cost Per Acquisition), ROAS (Return on Ad Spend), and revenue attribution. Manage budget allocation with rigor across all paid channels.
- AI-Optimized Marketing: Build toward an AI-optimized media operating model that reduces long-term agency dependence. Stay current on how artificial intelligence is reshaping paid acquisition and accelerate its integration into team operations.
- Lifecycle Retention Programs: Design campaigns and programs that keep donors engaged and move them deeper into their giving journey over time. Build the systems and programs that strengthen connection between donors and charity: water's mission.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven expertise in performance marketing with deep fluency in strategy, channel mix, audience targeting, creative testing, and budget management
- Demonstrated success directing agency partners and managing contractor relationships to execute against strategic vision
- Experience owning full-funnel fundraising strategy spanning paid acquisition, lifecycle retention, and campaign management
- Strong data analytics background with ability to think in lifetime value and hold teams accountable to measurable outcomes
- Track record building scalable systems and programs that drive sustainable revenue growth
- Leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional partners toward shared goals
- Familiarity with AI applications in marketing optimization and willingness to lead modernization efforts
