About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking research organization where you'll work on some of the most critical questions in AI development. As a Researcher or Senior Researcher at Epoch AI, you'll help define future research directions and launch new investigations into the most important trends shaping artificial intelligence. This role offers significant autonomy and the chance to contribute meaningfully to our understanding of AI systems and their societal implications.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead new research projects and investigations into critical AI trends and capabilities
• Help define and shape future research directions for your assigned team
• Conduct independent and collaborative research on AI systems, their performance characteristics, and development trajectories
• Contribute to research design, methodology, and analysis
• Work with cross-functional teams to identify important research questions
• Communicate research findings and insights to diverse audiences
• Stay current with developments in AI research and adjacent fields
• Participate in iterative research cycles and peer review processes

What We're Looking For

Core Qualifications: We seek researchers with strong analytical capabilities, intellectual curiosity, and a track record of independent research. Experience in AI, machine learning, computer science, or related quantitative fields is valuable. However, we recognize that expertise comes in many forms and welcome applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds and non-traditional career paths.

Preferred Experience: Prior experience in academic research, industry research labs, AI safety, machine learning engineering, or policy analysis is advantageous. Programming experience and familiarity with AI systems are valuable but not strictly required depending on the specific team and role level.
