Job Description

About LiveKit

LiveKit is building the infrastructure layer for the voice-driven era of computing. Founded in 2021, the platform empowers developers to build, test, deploy, scale, and observe AI agents in production. LiveKit powers voice AI applications for industry leaders including OpenAI, xAI, Salesforce, Coursera, and Spotify, collectively facilitating billions of calls each year.

The Role

As a Data Engineer at LiveKit, you'll own the analytics infrastructure that powers business intelligence and data analysis capabilities. This is a foundational individual contributor role with significant ownership over the architecture and direction of the analytics stack as the team grows. You'll work closely with the Head of Data and analytics peers to design and implement scalable, cost-effective GCP-based data pipelines—from ingestion through transformation to delivery. While analytics infrastructure is your core focus, you'll also contribute data pipeline expertise to broader application data infrastructure supporting product and engineering needs.

What You'll Own

  • End-to-End Analytics Infrastructure: Design and operate reliable, scalable GCP-based data pipelines including ingestion, movement, storage, security, and availability. Partner closely with the Analytics team on downstream transformation and business intelligence delivery.
  • Cloud Ecosystem Optimization: Build cost-effective solutions primarily using GCP-native services while leveraging transferable cloud infrastructure expertise. Make pragmatic tradeoffs between build, buy, and extend approaches with third-party or homegrown solutions.
  • Data Infrastructure Contributions: Apply broad data pipeline expertise to application data needs in collaboration with the product engineering team, extending beyond analytics-specific work.
  • Managed Services Strategy: Champion managed solutions over self-hosting, evaluating build vs. buy decisions with cost and operational burden as primary considerations.
  • Engineering Excellence: Maintain production-grade standards including peer code reviews, automated testing, proper change management, and AI-first development practices.

You'll Thrive Here If You

  • Obsess with crafting code that is fast, reliable, and practical for solving real problems
  • Serve as the go-to person for tackling tough technical challenges
  • Combine hard work with the ability to build and ship fast
  • Clearly explain complex technical concepts to others
  • Learn quickly, frequently picking up new languages and tools
  • Demonstrate thoughtful contributions through GitHub issues and pull requests

💰 Compensation not publicly listed. Market estimate for similar roles: from $130K, varying by experience and location.
