The Role
We are seeking a highly independent Mid-Level Ruby on Rails Developer to join our distributed team for a long-term engagement of 12+ months or longer. This is a critical backfill position supporting ongoing client projects alongside our onsite (US-based) and nearshore development teams. You'll work within North American business hours, contributing to a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your technical expertise directly impacts product quality and delivery timelines.
This role is ideal for a developer who thrives with autonomy, can manage priorities effectively without constant oversight, and is passionate about writing clean, maintainable code that scales. You'll be part of a distributed team that values continuous learning, technical excellence, and open communication.
Key Responsibilities
Feature Development: Develop, ship, and maintain high-quality features using the Ruby on Rails framework, from conception through production deployment.
Collaboration: Work seamlessly with distributed teams including onsite developers and nearshore engineers across multiple time zones, with emphasis on North American timezone alignment.
Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while adhering to established coding standards and best practices.
Sprint Execution: Actively participate in sprint ceremonies (planning, standups, reviews, retrospectives) and contribute to a fast-paced development lifecycle.
Performance & Reliability: Ensure applications maintain high performance, quality standards, and responsiveness across all user interactions.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Ruby on Rails Expertise: 4–6 years of professional software development experience with deep, hands-on knowledge of the Ruby on Rails framework and proven track record building and scaling web applications.
Seniority Level: Mid-level developer capable of working independently and taking ownership of features without constant supervision, yet collaborative and open to mentorship.
English Communication: Strong written and verbal English communication skills essential for seamless daily collaboration with distributed, English-speaking teams.
DevOps & Version Control: Familiarity with standard DevOps tooling, Git version control, CI/CD pipelines, and agile development methodologies.
Geographic Location: Must be located in Latin America (LATAM), excluding Brazil. Candidates in or near Colombia are strongly preferred to align with current team structures and timezone coordination.
Preferred Skills
Background in Python programming
Experience with database optimization and performance tuning
Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks and REST API design
Exposure to cloud platforms and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
