Director, Ceded Reinsurance

About the Role

Openly is seeking an experienced Director of Ceded Reinsurance to lead our reinsurance strategy and operations. This is a pivotal leadership position reporting directly to senior management, where you will oversee all aspects of our ceded reinsurance program, including placement, relationship management, claims handling, and financial optimization.

As Director of Ceded Reinsurance, you will be responsible for:

• Developing and executing the company's ceded reinsurance strategy to ensure optimal coverage, pricing, and retention levels
• Managing relationships with reinsurance brokers, carriers, and underwriters globally
• Overseeing the placement and renewal of reinsurance treaties and facultative agreements
• Monitoring reinsurance claims, recoveries, and disputes to maximize recoverable amounts
• Analyzing reinsurance market trends and assessing impact on company profitability and risk profile
• Building and leading a high-performing reinsurance team
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal governance standards
• Presenting recommendations to the executive team and board on reinsurance matters

What We're Looking For

You bring 10+ years of reinsurance experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership capacity. Your expertise spans treaty placement, facultative underwriting, claims management, and financial analysis. You possess deep knowledge of reinsurance market structures, rating methodologies, and placement strategies. Your leadership style emphasizes collaboration, communication, and operational excellence. You're analytical, strategic, and capable of building and motivating high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment.
