The Role: Senior Data Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our remote team in the United States. As a Senior Data Engineer at Openly, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our insurance technology platform. You will work with large-scale datasets, design scalable data pipelines, and enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.

This is a full-time, remote position offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in the US while contributing to a company that is fundamentally reshaping the insurance industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines and ETL processes to handle large volumes of structured and unstructured data
• Build and maintain robust data infrastructure supporting analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence initiatives
• Collaborate with data scientists, analytics engineers, and product teams to understand data requirements and deliver scalable solutions
• Implement data quality frameworks and monitoring systems to ensure data accuracy and reliability
• Optimize database performance and manage cloud-based data warehousing solutions
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to establishing data engineering best practices and standards
• Document data schemas, pipelines, and architectural decisions for team knowledge sharing
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes

What We're Looking For

• Experience: 7+ years of professional data engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in designing and deploying production data systems
• Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and at least one cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Data Stack Expertise: Experience with modern data warehousing solutions (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift), workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt), and data pipeline frameworks
• Problem Solving: Ability to tackle complex data challenges, optimize for performance, and implement scalable solutions
• Communication: Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and work effectively across cross-functional teams
• Mindset: Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate about building high-quality data infrastructure
