Software Engineer, Agentic Applications
💰 $120,000 – $180,000/yr
Job Description
About the Role
Simular is seeking a talented Software Engineer to build intuitive, elegant client experiences for our AI agent platform. Our cross-platform desktop client is the primary interface through which users interact with Simular's advanced AI agents. While it presents as a chat interface on the surface, the application powers symbolic code generation, debugging tools, execution panels, and sophisticated development workflows. We're looking for an engineer with exceptional taste—someone who cares deeply about design, simplicity, and user experience as much as code quality and technical architecture.
In this role, you won't just implement designs handed to you; what you ship will often be the design itself. You'll have the autonomy and responsibility to shape how users experience powerful AI tools, ensuring they feel intuitive and natural rather than overwhelming or complex.
Key Responsibilities
Own and evolve our cross-platform desktop application while architecting future client experiences across web, mobile, and emerging platforms. You'll have end-to-end ownership of your features, from user-facing UI through business logic to backend integration when needed.
Design and implement intuitive UX for interacting with AI agents, editing symbolic code, managing tasks, and navigating complex developer workflows. Every interaction should feel elegant and purposeful.
Explore and prototype new interaction patterns that transform powerful AI capabilities into simple, delightful user experiences. You'll be at the frontier of how developers interact with AI tools.
Work across the full technology stack—from pixel-perfect user interfaces to system integrations with native operating system APIs. You'll bridge web and native technologies, understanding when to use each approach.
Collaborate on architectural decisions that balance elegance with technical depth, ensuring the platform scales as we expand to new platforms and use cases.
Who You Are
You're a software engineer who believes that great UX and great engineering are inseparable. You have a portfolio of work that demonstrates taste—apps that don't just function well, but feel polished and intentional. You likely have:
Experience building beautiful, functional applications using desktop frameworks (Electron, Tauri, SwiftUI, etc.), web technologies (React, Vue, etc.), or native mobile development—but you're not locked into one stack. You're comfortable learning new frameworks to solve the right problem.
A track record of shipping side projects, personal applications, or open-source contributions that showcase your design sensibility and engineering ownership.
Genuine excitement about both design details (spacing, typography, interaction feedback) and technical depth (performance, architecture, system integration).
Experience bridging web and native worlds, or a background in developer tools and productivity software (even better).
The ability to think end-to-end: understanding how UI choices affect backend systems, how performance impacts user experience, and how architecture enables elegance.
Bonus Qualifications
- Portfolio demonstrating design-forward application work
- Prior experience at developer tool or productivity software companies
- Track record of building cross-platform experiences (desktop, web, mobile)
- Understanding of code generation, AI/ML tooling, or symbolic execution concepts
- Contributions to open-source projects with strong design focus
What We're Looking For
This is a role for someone who refuses to ship mediocre user experiences, even under time pressure. You care about the details—animation curves, error message clarity, keyboard shortcuts—because you know they compound into delight or frustration. You're equally comfortable discussing design systems and React performance optimization. You see your code as part of the user experience, not separate from it.
If you've ever rebuilt a personal app three times because the UX still didn't feel right, or spent hours polishing a UI interaction that few users will consciously notice but all will feel, you might be a fit.
💰 Compensation not publicly listed. Market estimate for similar roles: from $120K, varying by experience and location.
