DBA Engineer – Remote Opportunity

Social Discovery Ventures is seeking an experienced DBA Engineer to join our dynamic team on a remote basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a database professional to take on a critical infrastructure role within a growing, globally-distributed organization.

About the Role

As a DBA Engineer, you will be responsible for managing, optimizing, and maintaining our database infrastructure. This position offers the chance to work with modern database technologies while ensuring high availability, security, and performance across our systems. You'll play a pivotal role in supporting the technical foundation that powers our products and services.

This is a hands-on role where you'll wear multiple hats—from routine database administration to strategic infrastructure planning. You'll collaborate with development teams, DevOps professionals, and other stakeholders to ensure our data layer operates smoothly and securely.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain database systems across development, staging, and production environments
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies
• Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
• Manage user access, permissions, and security protocols to protect sensitive data
• Collaborate with application developers to optimize queries and database schemas
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues with minimal downtime
• Document database configurations, processes, and procedures for knowledge sharing
• Stay current with database technology trends and best practices in the industry
• Participate in capacity planning and infrastructure forecasting
• Support system upgrades and migrations with careful planning and execution

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Database Administrator or similar role (typically 3+ years minimum)
• Strong proficiency with relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle)
• Solid understanding of database design, normalization, and optimization
• Experience with backup and recovery solutions, high availability architectures
• Working knowledge of cloud database platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL) is highly valued
• Understanding of database security best practices and compliance requirements
• Proficiency with command-line tools and scripting (Bash, PowerShell, or similar)
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication abilities and ability to work in cross-functional teams
• Self-motivated with ability to manage time effectively in a remote environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra)
• Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools and configuration management
• Experience implementing monitoring and alerting solutions
• Background with data warehousing or analytics platforms
• Relevant certifications (Oracle DBA, Microsoft SQL Server, AWS Certified Database)
