DBA Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced DBA Engineer to join our growing engineering team at Social Discovery Ventures. This is a remote position open to candidates worldwide, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere while contributing to innovative technology solutions.

As a DBA Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust database systems that support our applications and services. You will work closely with development teams, system architects, and stakeholders to ensure optimal database performance, security, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain database infrastructure across multiple environments (development, staging, production)
• Monitor database performance and implement optimization strategies to ensure efficient query execution
• Develop and execute backup and disaster recovery procedures to safeguard critical data
• Troubleshoot database issues and provide timely resolutions to minimize downtime
• Collaborate with application developers to optimize database schemas and queries
• Implement security best practices including access controls, encryption, and compliance measures
• Manage database upgrades, patches, and version migrations
• Document database architectures, procedures, and configurations
• Participate in capacity planning and infrastructure scaling decisions
• Conduct performance tuning and identify opportunities for cost optimization

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer (3+ years preferred)
• Strong expertise with relational database systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle)
• Proficiency in SQL query optimization and performance tuning
• Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning
• Knowledge of database security, authentication, and authorization mechanisms
• Familiarity with cloud database services (AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, Azure SQL Database)
• Understanding of high-availability and replication technologies
• Experience with monitoring and alerting tools for database systems
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and documentation abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis)
• Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Relevant database certifications (Oracle, Microsoft, AWS)
• Experience in high-traffic, large-scale database environments
