About This Role
Social Discovery Ventures is seeking an experienced Deputy Chief Technology Officer to join our leadership team. This is a strategic, full-time remote position designed for a technical leader who can drive innovation, oversee engineering operations, and support the CTO in shaping our technology vision and execution across global teams.
As Deputy CTO, you will play a crucial role in the company's technical direction, managing engineering teams, architecture decisions, and ensuring that our technology infrastructure scales effectively to support our growing platform and user base. This position offers the opportunity to influence product strategy, mentor engineering talent, and contribute to building world-class technology solutions in the social discovery space.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Chief Technology Officer to define and execute the company's technical strategy and roadmap
- Lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams across multiple disciplines and time zones
- Oversee system architecture, technical infrastructure, and engineering best practices
- Drive innovation initiatives and evaluate emerging technologies for competitive advantage
- Ensure code quality, security, and performance standards across all engineering projects
- Manage technical debt and optimize engineering processes for efficiency and velocity
- Collaborate with product, design, and business teams to align technology with company goals
- Conduct technical interviews and help shape engineering hiring and culture
- Monitor KPIs related to system performance, reliability, and engineering productivity
- Lead technical problem-solving for complex, mission-critical systems
- Represent the engineering function in executive and board-level discussions
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time in senior/leadership roles
- Proven track record as a CTO, VP Engineering, or similar C-level/executive technical role
- Deep expertise in software architecture, system design, and technical infrastructure
- Experience managing and scaling engineering teams of varying sizes
- Strong understanding of modern development practices, CI/CD, and DevOps methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to balance innovation with pragmatism and technical debt management
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across functional teams
- Strategic thinking combined with hands-on technical capability
- Experience in fast-growing or startup environments is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in social platforms, consumer technology, or marketplace products
- Experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and scalable architectures
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and modern engineering team structures
- Track record of successful technical transformations or platform migrations
- Experience with remote-first or globally distributed engineering organizations
