About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Junior Linux Engineer to join our growing technical team at SoftwareMind. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career professionals looking to develop expertise in Linux system administration, server management, and infrastructure support within a collaborative, remote-first environment.

As a Junior Linux Engineer, you will work alongside experienced DevOps and infrastructure teams to maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot Linux-based systems. You'll gain hands-on experience with real-world server environments, containerization technologies, and cloud infrastructure while supporting our diverse client base across multiple industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain Linux servers and infrastructure in production environments
  • Assist with system configuration, deployment, and ongoing maintenance tasks
  • Troubleshoot Linux system issues and implement solutions under supervision
  • Support automation and scripting initiatives using Bash and Python
  • Collaborate with senior engineers on infrastructure optimization projects
  • Document system configurations and maintain technical runbooks
  • Participate in on-call rotation and incident response activities
  • Stay current with Linux security best practices and apply patches promptly

Required Skills & Experience

  • Solid foundational knowledge of Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, CentOS, or similar distributions)
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewall basics)
  • Experience with command-line interfaces and shell scripting (Bash)
  • Familiarity with system administration fundamentals
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and seek guidance when needed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Basic knowledge of Python or other scripting languages
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Linux certification (CompTIA Security+, LPI, or RHEL) or equivalent coursework
