Telehealth Physician (Remote) - Medicare Patient Advocacy

About This Role

Understood Care is seeking a compassionate Telehealth Physician to join our mission of bridging the healthcare gap for Medicare patients navigating complex healthcare systems. This is a remote, part-time position (minimum 10 hours per week) with the flexibility to evolve into a full-time role, perfect for physicians seeking meaningful work with senior populations while maintaining schedule flexibility.

In this innovative position, you will conduct audio or video patient intake appointments lasting 20-30 minutes each. Your primary responsibility is to understand the healthcare challenges patients face and determine their suitability for patient advocacy services under the principles of Principal Illness Navigation and Community Health Integration. This role does not require diagnosing or prescribing—instead, it focuses on assessment, understanding patient needs, and connecting them with appropriate resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct initial patient intake appointments via audio or video conferencing to assess healthcare navigation challenges
• Evaluate patient eligibility for patient advocacy services based on clinical assessment frameworks
• Collaborate with our Patient Advocate team to ensure seamless care coordination
• Work closely with our technology team to develop and test innovative AI tools that enhance the clinical experience and improve care delivery
• Provide clinical oversight and guidance for senior Medicare patients seeking assistance with appointment booking, transportation, medical equipment ordering, and healthcare system navigation
• Contribute to process improvements and protocol development in a fast-paced startup environment
• Maintain detailed patient records and documentation to support advocacy services

Required Qualifications

• Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
• Active medical license in an IMLC (Interstate Medical Licensure Compact) member state with openness to acquiring additional licensure as needed
• PTAN/PECOS account with current registration and enrollment with Medicare
• Minimum 10 hours per week availability (flexible week-to-week scheduling)

• Prior telehealth delivery experience
• Strong technical proficiency with ability to quickly learn new healthcare technologies and platforms

💰 Compensation: $125/hour (part-time, minimum 10 hours/week). This equates to approximately $65,000-$130,000+ annually depending on hours worked.
