Contraceptive care is basic healthcare. Yet too many patients in the U.S. struggle to access the care they need, when they need it. Founded in 2014, Upstream USA is a national, nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that equitable, patient-centered contraceptive care is available to everyone.
Our Mission and Impact
Upstream works to ensure individuals can make fully informed, autonomous decisions about the contraceptive methods that are best for them. We are currently the largest contraceptive organization in the country improving contraceptive care in primary care settings, operating in 37 states and Washington, D.C.
While our foundational work focuses on partnering with healthcare organizations offering primary care, such as federally qualified healthcare centers (FQHCs) and health systems, we are always evolving. We are actively pursuing additional, innovative paths to ensure every patient has streamlined access to the contraceptive service of their choice, where and when it is most convenient for them.

Upstream Digital is the innovation arm of Upstream USA, dedicated to ensuring that all people have equitable access to the full range of contraceptive care. We believe that access to birth control should be easy, patient-centered, and—above all—free.
As reproductive healthcare faces increasing pressure, the traditional ways of accessing care are often no longer enough. Research shows that patients want their birth control through multiple, flexible channels, yet nearly 1 in 10 low-income women still discontinue their preferred method due to cost. Upstream Digital was created to bridge this gap by building modern, technology-forward solutions that meet patients exactly where they are.

Our flagship initiative, FreeBC, is an innovative digital platform designed to remove every barrier between a patient and their reproductive healthcare. FreeBC represents a groundbreaking approach to increasing access to contraceptive care through digital engagement and user-centered design.
The Role: Senior Engagement Manager
As Senior Engagement Manager for FreeBC, you will lead digital marketing and patient engagement efforts to drive awareness, adoption, and retention on our platform. This is a strategic leadership position for someone passionate about reproductive health equity and skilled in digital marketing strategy, community engagement, and healthcare communications.
You will be responsible for:
- Developing and executing comprehensive digital marketing strategies to reach target patient populations across multiple channels
- Building and managing engagement campaigns that educate patients about FreeBC and increase platform adoption
- Collaborating with clinical, product, and operations teams to align messaging with patient needs and organizational goals
- Analyzing engagement metrics and optimizing campaigns based on data-driven insights
- Managing partnerships with community organizations and healthcare providers to expand FreeBC's reach
- Leading creative development of educational content around contraceptive care and reproductive health
- Building relationships with key stakeholders and community leaders in reproductive health advocacy
- Contributing to thought leadership and public communications on contraceptive access equity
Who You Are
You are an experienced digital marketing professional with a demonstrated commitment to health equity and reproductive rights. You excel at translating complex healthcare information into compelling, accessible messaging. You are strategic, data-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced nonprofit environment with ambitious growth goals.
We seek candidates with:
- 5+ years of experience in digital marketing, marketing strategy, or patient engagement roles
- Deep expertise in digital channels (email, social media, digital advertising, SEO/SEM)
- Strong understanding of healthcare marketing, patient communications, or nonprofit marketing
- Demonstrated passion for reproductive health equity and access to care
- Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently while maintaining alignment with organizational strategy
- Strong analytical capabilities and comfort with marketing analytics platforms
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
