Job Description
About Alchemer
Founded in 2006, Alchemer is a powerful survey and data insights platform empowering business professionals to make informed decisions. As a SaaS application, it offers user-friendly data collection tools for understanding customers, markets, and employees in real time. Alchemer provides data insights in over 100 countries, with 50,000 new surveys created and 5 million responses collected every week.
The Role
As the most senior individual contributor on Alchemer's analytics and data visualization products, you'll build solutions with the judgment and independence to solve hard problems. This is a full-stack role with a bias towards front-end—we want well-rounded engineers, not single-framework specialists. You'll work closely with engineering leadership and product managers on product direction, then own getting it built well while setting the technical standard for other engineers.
What You Will Do
- Make major hands-on contributions to analytics products, including building new services and interfaces, leading significant changes, and maintaining the existing portfolio with an emphasis on stability and quality.
- Contribute to architectural designs and systemic processes to build reliable, scalable, and durable products that integrate with other Alchemer systems.
- Take substantial initiatives from concept through production, owning the technical approach and adapting as business needs evolve.
- Build and optimize services, pipelines, and query paths behind analytics products, where correctness and performance at volume are critical.
- Design and build APIs and embed surfaces for internal teams, customers, and partners, prioritizing ease of use and interoperability.
- Build front-end experiences that hold up under real data volumes, working closely with UX teams.
- Shape requirements with product managers and subject matter experts, weighing trade-offs between usability, cost, and query performance.
- Bring technical judgment to sprint and release planning with clear-eyed assessment of enhancement costs and technical debt.
- Build AI and ML capabilities into analytics products, including retrieval, natural-language query, and generated-insight features.
- Use usage data, query telemetry, and customer feedback to identify and fix performance bottlenecks.
- Contribute to CI/CD processes enabling smoother releases and increasing team confidence.
- Mentor engineers, raise the bar on code and design review, and share knowledge across the team.
What You Bring
- At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with significant depth in data-intensive or analytics applications.
- Well-rounded full-stack expertise, perhaps with center of gravity on front-end and React. Breadth of experience matters more than alignment with specific languages or tools.
- Strong command of databases, data structures, query optimization, and data modeling.
- Ability to diagnose and fix slow dashboards at the right architectural layer.
- Experience with or familiarity with analytics, BI, or data visualization platforms.
- Front-end building focused on user expectations and usability, not just interface implementation.
- Commitment to understanding why work is being done and raising gaps, ambiguities, or missing scenarios.
- Deep experience with the full software development lifecycle: application code, testing, documentation, performance, and security engineering.
- Collaborative approach to working with engineers; mentorship and knowledge sharing are core to the role.
- Strong communication across technical and non-technical, internal and external audiences.
- Experience adopting AI tooling in your development workflow.
