Job Description

About Antares

Antares is building mass-producible, inherently safe, deployable microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, and space applications. Our mission is to make clean energy abundant from Earth to the Asteroid Belt. The team comprises veterans from SpaceX, the White House, Pentagon, Department of Energy, MIT, and National Laboratories. Antares has raised over $600M in venture capital and holds hundreds of millions in contracts with military services, NASA, and the Department of Energy.

The Role

As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer on the R&D team, you will be an expert in manufacturing and assembly of advanced nuclear reactors. You'll be instrumental in developing Antares' first R&D facility, including layout, special processes, hazardous material handling, and machine procurement. You will develop and document key special processes, requirements, and workflows enabling rapid product iteration.

On the design side, you'll ensure parts and assemblies are manufacturable and integrable at the system architecture level. As the product matures from concept through prototype and beyond, you'll lead the manufacturing planning process and guide in-house versus outsourcing decisions and vendor selection. You'll ultimately scale production capabilities from prototype phase through serialized production of multiple nuclear reactor sub-systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and develop manufacturing processes for critical reactor sub-systems requiring both conventional and special processes
  • Participate in design reviews and assess parts/assemblies to influence form/fit for improved manufacturability based on achievable process tolerances and inspection capabilities
  • Collaborate with design, materials, and manufacturing teams to ensure design compatibility with process capabilities and timeline requirements
  • Develop process control plans and monitor process health
  • Lead design for manufacturing initiatives with proven track record of improving both design and processes

Ideal Candidate

You have extensive experience with special processes including welding, brazing, heat treatment, hazardous materials handling, non-destructive inspections, and coatings for super-alloys. You can confidently identify appropriate manufacturing methods and establish robust process controls. You possess design for manufacturing expertise and a demonstrated ability to optimize both design and manufacturing processes. Your background enables you to scale from prototype development to high-volume production.
