Job Description

About Arc Boat Company

Arc is on a mission to electrify the marine industry. We're rethinking powertrains, software, and vessel designs from first principles. The marine industry supports recreation, global commerce, and national defense, yet runs on technology largely unchanged for fifty years. Arc is scaling production of flagship models with new sectors on the horizon, extending our platform to commercial applications including tugs, ferries, and defense with years of signed contracts.

The Role

As an Electrical Engineer on our Commercial Systems team, you will design new electric and hybrid propulsion systems to make port operations cheaper, quieter, and less emissive. You'll report to our Head of Commercial Systems in our Torrance, California office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate high-level control architectures and P&IDs into detailed, manufacturable hardware definitions and panel layouts
  • Own logical IO allocation, schematics, and 2D/3D panel layouts
  • Generate manufacturing data packages including BOMs, wire lists, and terminal strip diagrams
  • Build, wire, test, and debug both high and low voltage systems hands-on
  • Develop and maintain bench test systems ensuring feature parity with production vessels
  • Support sea trials to validate and certify systems
  • Interface with component suppliers, partner shipyards, and vessel operators with occasional travel (5–10%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years as an Electrical Engineer, Automation Engineer, or similar role
  • Strong electrical fundamentals with focus on control panel design and low voltage distribution
  • Extensive experience with electrical design software (Zuken, EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent)
  • Experience specifying industrial automation hardware (PLCs, IO modules, network switches, power supplies)
  • Practical knowledge of industrial and automotive communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, CAN)
  • Demonstrated ability designing, building, and troubleshooting electrical panels
  • Strong written and verbal communication and time management skills
  • Comfortable working at a fast but sustainable pace and spending time on boats for field testing
  • History of end-to-end ownership and first-principles thinking
