Job Description

About MISUMI Americas

MISUMI Americas, a division of MISUMI Group, is a leading provider of standard, configurable, and custom manufacturing solutions. By integrating a vast catalog of components with a world-class digital manufacturing platform, MISUMI Americas empowers engineers and procurement teams to accelerate innovation across the entire product lifecycle. With operations in the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago, the company serves as a vital partner for the most innovative companies in the Americas.

Role Summary (Impact in this Role)

The Applied Instructional Designer translates engineering systems and applications into structured, scalable, and high-impact learning experiences for the MISUMI University Program. This role combines engineering knowledge with instructional design expertise to create curriculum, labs, and digital learning content that align with academic and industry needs.
You will play a critical role in shaping how students learn modern engineering workflows, from component selection to system integration, using MISUMI tools and products.

Areas of Responsibility: Essential Functions

  • Design and develop curriculum, lab modules, and project-based learning experiences based on real engineering systems
  • Transform demo platforms and training kits into structured educational pathways
  • Create instructor guides, student materials, assessments, and digital learning assets
  • Align curriculum with academic standards, accreditation requirements (e.g., ABET), and university program goals
  • Collaborate closely with Applied Content Engineers to ensure technical accuracy and relevance
  • Work with University Applications Engineers to pilot and refine content in live classroom settings
  • Develop scalable delivery formats (in-person, hybrid, and self-paced online learning)
  • Measure learning effectiveness and continuously improve course content based on feedback and outcomes
  • All employees are expected to maintain and contribute to the QMS.

Required Qualifications and Desired Traits

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Education, Instructional Design, or related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or technical training, preferably in a STEM or engineering-focused environment
  • Strong understanding of STEM education principles and project-based learning methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, engaging, and accessible learning experiences
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and digital content development tools
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk and hear; use hands to keyboard, fingers, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, crawl, reach, and stretch.

The compensation range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 USD annually based on experience.

We’re actively seeking teammates who:

  • Bring diverse perspectives and experience to our culture and company.
  • Excel at being part of a strong, empathetic team.
  • Thrive in an environment emphasizing respect, honesty, collaboration, and growth.
  • Have an ‘always learning’ mindset that celebrates learning, not just wins.
  • Help us continue to build a world-class organization that values the contributions of all of our teammates

We encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups, including but not limited to women, members of the LGBTQ community, people of color, people with disabilities, and veterans.
