Job Description

About Recidiviz

Recidiviz creates safer, healthier communities by improving outcomes for people in the criminal justice system. We build technology to safely reduce incarceration and help criminal justice leaders embrace data-driven decision-making, working side-by-side with state governments, incarcerated individuals, and ecosystem partners.

About the Role

As an Implementation Engineer, you sit at the intersection of engineering and partner success. You are the technical bridge between Recidiviz's core platform and state partners—writing code that transforms messy, real-world criminal justice data into reliable system inputs while collaborating with state agencies, subject matter experts, and product teams to define technical direction and impact.

This role blends hands-on data pipeline engineering with meaningful customer-facing work: scoping technical approaches with state IT staff, surfacing insights that shape product development, and building trust that transforms state departments of corrections into long-term Recidiviz champions. You'll move fluidly between deep technical work and clear stakeholder communication.

Core Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain state data ingest pipelines using Python and SQL
  • Ingest, normalize, and validate criminal justice data from diverse sources
  • Partner with state IT teams to scope technical approaches and resolve implementation challenges
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to surface partner insights and shape product direction
  • Document data flows, maintain pipeline reliability, and support ongoing partner success

What You Bring

  • 2+ years of software engineering or data engineering experience
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder communication skills
  • Empathy for mission-driven work in criminal justice reform
  • Comfort moving between technical depth and non-technical partner communication

Work Environment

  • Location: Remote, New York City, or Oakland, CA
  • Travel: Occasional (estimated 10%) to visit state partner sites for onboarding, relationship-building, and technical scoping. Travel is planned in advance and clustered around key milestones.
  • Visa Sponsorship: Not available
  • Remote Hiring: United States only

Salary Disclosure: This is an editorial market estimate based on role level, location, and industry benchmarks—not employer-provided compensation. Actual salary may vary significantly by experience, location, and qualifications.
