Job Description
About the Role
The Wikimedia Foundation seeks a senior communications professional to lead executive communications across a growing, global portfolio. You will serve as a primary communications partner to the Foundation's CEO, providing strategic counsel and direct support across internal and external communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Executive Partnership: Build a comprehensive engagement strategy spanning multiple and complex stakeholder groups in close collaboration with media relations, internal communications teams, and the Chief of Staff.
- Strategic Development: Develop, shape, and implement a strategy for the CEO to communicate and advance the Wikimedia Foundation's vision.
- Thought Leadership: Proactively identify, shape, and execute opportunities to build thought leadership platforms for the CEO and executive team, including securing and preparing leaders for public speaking and media engagements.
- Communications Materials: Develop speeches, remarks, talking points, social media posts, internal communications, briefing documents, and blogs for executive stakeholders.
- Messaging Strategy: Develop key narratives and messaging strategies that increase awareness and understanding of Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects' value globally.
- Executive Team Support: Support external communications for other members of the Foundation's executive team and Board of Trustees.
What We're Looking For
- Executive Communications Expertise: Proven experience writing for CEOs and C-level executives with deep understanding of translating priorities into strategic communications. You are a strategic partner and advisor, not just a tactician.
- Highly Collaborative: Ability to integrate executive communications tactics into broader departmental strategies across a globally-distributed, remote, matrixed organization. Experience working across earned media, social media, and community engagement channels.
- Strategic Thinker: Responsive, curious, and able to anticipate tough questions. You think strategically about messages that resonate across multiple audiences and thrive in autonomous work environments.
- Executive Presence: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create connections across departments and teams in a collaborative environment.
Working Arrangement
This fully remote role requires regular working hours aligned with Eastern Time (ET), with flexibility to work across time zones as needed to support global stakeholders and executive communications.
